Last year I wondered why these pillars were erected on the pier of Docheiariou:
On this blog we now see the answer: the bronze statues of archangels Michael and Gabriel, made by Fivos Sargentis , are “protecting the Avaton”! Very reassuring!
It is noticeable that monks in Docheiariou have special interest in statues: here is picture from the courtyard of Docheiariou, that I made last year. The statue carries the text “O kalos poimin” – the good sheperd.
Judging by the comments I saw on another greek blog, they haven’t been received particularly well. The general consensus is that they are kitsch. Personally I don’t feel that strongly against them, I would have to see them up close to form an opinion. I am more interested seeing the massive red crane that stands by the side of the monastery for so many years, to be finally removed.
At Dochiariou they have two icons of Archangels right at the entrance of the monastery.
Isn’t that enough?
I totally agree on removing that ugly red crane!!
