These pictures are from a privat photo album, shot during the First World War by a French “Aviateur”. He visited Athos at the same time as Gabriel Millet did, who published part of his pictures in his book “Monuments de l’Athos”. Many of Millet’s pictures are already published in this weblog.
I choose to show you most photo’s in a detailed version (not the original size).I.M. Xiropotamou

very beautiful, telling pictures, a.o. the tiny monk walking in the gardens in front of the large buildings. strange images for one who knows all this in the ultimate decay of the seventies.
Wonderful set of photographs. Great to see all the detail, especially the close-up interior of the church
