1550 – films: Mt Athos – A Thousand Years are as One Day 1981 / Mount Athos 1980s

An English spoken German film about Athos from 1981, made by Südwestfunk Baden-Baden. A beautiful and insightful documentary about the Orthodox Christian monastic enclave of Mt Athos (Chalkidiki), and the Athonite perspective on the world, spirituality and devotion. Most scenes are shot in Simonopetras.

Documentary made about Mt Athos during the 1980s and features various speakers like Metropolitan Anthony Bloom of Sourouzh and Metropolitan Kallistos Ware. Provides various insights into the history and traditions of Athonite monasticism and asceticism.

1550 – films: Mt Athos – A Thousand Years are as One Day 1981 / Mount Athos 1980s
An English overdub of the 1981 film
‘A thousand years seem like just one day,
Monks from Athos, the Holy Mountain’
    originally made for German TV.

    The film is described as
“a sensitive study of one of the
twenty great monasteries of Mount Athos,
a thousand year old monastic republic in northern Greece-
the famous ‘Holy Mountain’ of the Orthodox church.
A detailed picture of life in the 900 year old
    monastery of Simonopetra.”
