Graham Speake ‘s book about Athos, Renewal in Paradise begins with a quote from The Station by Robert Byron.
Here Byron discribes that he is standing on the summit of Mount Athos with a clear view on Lemnos, the plains of Troy, the fingers of Chalkidiki, Mount Olympos to the west. But also the islands of Euboea and Skiathos (literally, the shadow of Athos). Two maps with almost every sight that was mentioned by Byron.

The observation by Byron is perhaps a little bit overdone but this picture by Phaethon72 shows that it is possible to see Mount Athos if you are standing on Mount Olympus.
This picture by Zedapell proves that you can see the mountain if you are on Lemnos.

Is Inderdaad een topwandeling, maar dan wel van te voren lezen The Russians on athos uit 2001. Ik probeer dat te bestellen. Hoe kom jij aan die aardige 2dehands boeken?

beste wim ,boek van erich feigl door een antiquaar mij aangeboden,echter ik moet zelf bod doen,hebt u indicatie voor mij?
Circa x80 25 / x80 50? In het boek staat 98 DM en ik betaalde uiteindelijk f 60,00 (=20 jaar geleden), dus nog in oudewetse guldens….Het is een groot, gebonden boek, met zeer veel zw/w foto’s en de bekende kaart van Zwerger in de omslag. Succes ermee ! Wim
