420 – Russian icon 17th century

Afbeelding_10
Top left corner Athanasios the Athonite (10th century) founder of Lavra. At the bottom John the Forerunner. On his right St. Demetrios of Thessaloniki. 83,5 x 66,5 cm private collection.
Compare the head of John the Forerunner (Prodromus) with the fresco in the Protaton church in Karyes painted in ca. 1300 by Michael Panselinos. Does anyone knows the oldest picture of John Prodromus?
