In summer Mt. Athos can be covered in clouds but a there is always a moment or a day that the mountain is clearly visible. When we were on the peninsula in december last year we were not so sure to get a clear view on the mountain. Clouds were dominating the view.
What we did see were beautiful cloud formations that gave us a idea of the mountain without seeing it . The clouds were shaping themselves alongside the slopes.
The sun was trying to break through the clouds but did not succeed.
But then, on our third day in Nea Skiti, the sun cast its rays on the sea. The weather cleared.
The next day, when sailing back to the world, we finally saw the mountain in its full glory.

What a wonderful moment, Herman. Beautiful, tangible light. And the silence of the holy mountain!
