1835 – A Pilgrimage to Athos: how to make a reservation by email or online: for updates (since July 2023): see Page “How to plan a visit?”.

Updates -short discription-:

27 June 2023: text ajustments and more information about how to ask for a Diamoniterion, general info and a new (third!) emailadress of Dionysiou, plus a telephone number of Kerasia

19 March 2023: Sografou now also has an online registration form to ask for hospitality

17 March 2023: Xenofontos now offers an online hospitality/registration request (max 3 pilgrims)

6 March 2023: The monastery of Lavra also opened their doors again for pilgrims, but this information is not confirmed. It is said that only one or two pilgrims (!) are allowed to visit the monastery each day (information FoMA meeting).

20 February 2023: at the time of writing negative Covid tests are no longer required in order to be granted a Diamonitirion to travel to the Holy Mountain from mainland Greece!

October 2022: Vatopedi now requires a ‘pilgrim id’ for its reservations, obtainable after a quick registration at hospitality.vatopedi.gr.

Old information: The fathers at this specific monastery also require a negative PCR covid test to be shown (not older then 48 hours -€60- at vipdocter.gr in Ouranopolis), despite the obligatory rapid test performed upon entrance to Athos (free of charge). It is irrelevant that you already have a full vaccination scheme or not. Another new rule at Vatopedi is that FIRST and directly you have to go this monastery, if you go to Athos. So you cannot go to another monastery (or Karyes) first and afterwards go to Vatopedi).

Please notice: in this post use the words “at sign” instead of the symbol @, to prevent spy-bots to hack the email addresses of monasteries (thanks Japetusgr).

To start with: every pilgrimage to Athos starts with an email send to the pilgrimsbureau in Ouranopolis:

athosreservation at sign gmail.com

Remember that you’ll have aply for your Diamoniterion 3 months before the start of you pilgrimage. Only 14 non-orthodox visitors are allowed to enter each day (and 120 Orthodox) and you’ll need a reservation beforehand for the 3 nights you will spent in the different monasteries. Add the full names, passportnumbers and religion of the visitors, and a copy of their passports in your email.  When you collect your Diamoniterion you pay eather 25 or 30 euro (Orthodox or not).

Secondly: don’t forget to make a reservation 2 months before the start of your pligrimage for the ferry to Dafni at 9.45 h and back from Dafni to Ouranopolis at info at sign agioreitikes-grammes.com (the boat from Ierissos leaves at 8.35 h.)

We recommend hotel Akrogiali in Ouranopolis: the owners Kosta and Carolina speak English. Their website does work properly, but asking for a reservation by email works fine, use: info at sign ouranoupolis-akrogiali.gr. It is a cheap and clean hotel, and ask for a room with a sea view, if you like the sound of the waves. Don’t forget to mention my name Wim Voogd or the name of this weblog.

For breakfast or a cold beer later we recommend bar Isalos from Maria and Anna, say hello from us! (also read our updated post 1729).

  1. Ioan says:

Agiou Pavlou – monastery (moni@agiou-pavlou.gr ; evdokimos at sign me.com)

  2. michalis says:

Xenophontos monastery: arhontariki at sign imxenophontos.gr

  3. Alasdair Brooks says:

I’m fairly certain I had an e-mail confirmation from Philotheou for my 2014 trip. Philotheou and Iviron (which you already have) confirmed by e-mail; Gregoriou and the Lavra didn’t. I’ll see if I still have that Philotheou address on record somewhere, and can hunt it down; but even if not, I know they do have one.

  4. Dionysiou monastery: grafiotaxis at sign yahoo.com

    • Guido says:

Apparently new email address of Dionysiou Monastery (as per mid January 2018): agiosnifon at sign gmail.com

Nr 03 above, Iviron: you read now imiviron, starting with ‘i’. Should be starting with ‘m’. (see Michalis’ reply

  11. Nathaniel says:

The second email of the Nea Skiti is wrong. When I sent them a letter for reservation I received this reply:

Dear Sir, this is a personal email and cannot respond to hospitality notes. Thank you!
Αυτό είναι προσωπικό email και δεν ανταποκρίνεται σε αιτήματα φιλοξενίας. Ευχαριστώ πολύ!

The first email: eugeniosathos at sign gmail.com is not the email of Nea Skiti too. This is email of the Xenofontini skiti.

  12. athosweblog says:

Thanks for your update! I knew that father Nikon en Eugenios from Nea skiti would move to skiti Xenofontos, but I didn’t know when. Wim

    • Aliaksandr says:

Dear Brothers, could you please provide e-mail of Agios Andreas Skiti, Nea Skiti, Kafsokalivion Skiti?

      • athosweblog says:

Sorry, we do not have any infomation about emailadresses of these three skiti. I had one of father Nikon, but he moved to skiti Xenofontos. Maybe he can give you an email adress in Nea Skiti. nikonathos at sign gmail.com . Or you can try to reach father Eusebios Christofi through Facebook, he lives in Nea Skiti.

  15. Sean Surlow says:

This is a great list… I look forward to seeing it as it gets updated.

  16. Sean Surlow says:

This is a great list… I look forward to seeing it as it gets updated. Very Interesting photographs of the disinterred Fr. It makes you realize how short our time here on Earth is and to make the most of our time here…

  17. John says:

Philotheou Monastery address for reservations is philotheou.filoxenia at sign gmail.com

  18. Gabriel says:

The e-mail pantokvisit at sign gmail.com is not in use any longer. Any request for accommodation in the Holy Monastery of Pantokrator should be sent exclusively to filoxenia at sign pantokrator.gr

  19. Catalin says:

    Good afternoon
do you have the email address for Saintt Andrew Skiti in Karyes?

  20. straniero38 says:

Do you know about Simonopetra and Xenofontos if they accept reservation via email?

  21. Милош Ћирић says:

I wonder if anyone managed to visit the Xeropotamou Monastery?

  22. Angel Yordanov says:

    Hello everybody,
I wood like to note, that the mail karakallou at sign yahoo.com is not correct, every time I receiving undelivered MAILER DAEMION message

  23. George says:

When you send a request to Philotheou Monastery to their grammateia at sign philotheou.gr address they answer by redirecting you to write again to their philotheou.filoxenia at sign gmail.com address. To avoid a needless distraction to the fathers and a waste of effort to the pilgrims, it seems it would be better to remove their grammateia at sign philotheou.gr address from your list.

  24. John says:

    Hello,
do you know the email address of the skiti of St. Andrew in Karyes?

  25. Ι. Μονή Παντοκράτορος says:

Christ is risen! The Pantokratoros monastery has a new email address: filoxenia at sign pantokrator.gr

  26. japetusgr says:

I would like to suggest to the webmasters, as there are numerous spybots on the internet today searching for email addresses in order to send spam mail, to help protect the privacy and peace of the monks who are receiving these mails trying to find actual pilgrim reservation requests among tons of spam mail, by concealing the adresses somehow.

  27. David Behar says:

Hello to friends of Mount Athos
I have difficulty to reach the Dionisiou monastery – I have tried by email and fax – and got no response
Anyone can help with the latest updated communication link to the monastery?
    Many thanks and blessings
    David

  28. Gavriil says:

The Romanian Skete “Prodromos” have this email: prodromuarhondaric at sign yahoo.com

  29. Mihail says:

    H.M. Konstamonitou:
    imkonstamonitou at sign gmail.com

They replayed with this e-mail address to my Fax and recommended to be used for next reservations.

Always try to go based on a confirmed reservation to an Athos monastery!

  30. Mihail says:

They are facing a transition period, from Fax to e-mail, like in the example above.

I sent a Fax (where I had the inspiration to mention my e-mail address), they replayed to me via e-mail, with the recommendation that in the future to use the provided e-mail address for reservations.

  31. nik says:

Hi, I am trying to reach monastery dionysioy with the given contacts for one week now for several times a day. (email: no answer, fax: doesn’t work, telephone: nobody answers calls )
    any idea?

    • Japetus says:

Dionysiou is well known for not answering calls or replying back on emails/faxes.. Provided however you get to the monastery early, you won’t usually have a problem being offered accomodation.

  32. Jan Demczuk says:

I have a little different question- maybe someone can help. We have a reservation for May and one person can’t go .We asked in the office in Thessaloniki to change to another person. We are very much interested to change the person and I don’t know if there is anything else I can do.Did anyone have situation like this?

    • athosweblog says:

Sorry, I never dealt with this problem. Why should the Pilgrimsbureau in Ouranopolis (not Thessaloniki), not accept a change of persons (as long as the max of 10 non-orthodox pilgrims is not exceeded?)

  33. Vasílis says:

Yes, and did the office in Thessaloniki not answer? Maybe you shouldn’t call it a change, Just say you have to cancel the first one. Ask then for a permit for the other erson. Isn’t that an option?

  34. Leonard-Vlad Trifan says:

    Romanian Lakku Skit
Kelli of Father Stephan: 23770 23636
Kelli of Father Varsanufie: 23770 23858
    Kelli of Father Pavel: 23770 22587 (6972765236 – mobile)
Kelli of Father Isidor: 23770 23871
Kelli of Father Pimen: 6946572266 – mobile

  35. Japetus says:

Vatopedi now requires a ‘pilgrim id’ for its reservations, obtainable after a quick registration at hospitality.vatopedi.gr. The fathers there at the specific monastery also currently require a negative PCR covid test to be shown along, despite the obligatory rapid test performed upon entrance to Athos and irrelevant of having already had a full vaccination scheme or not.

Normal diamoneteria are issued again since a couple of months now via the pilgrims bureau after a long period when only special ones were issued, but reservation period has been cut down from three months to one prior entry for orthodox pilgrims, not sure how long before needs one to apply if he is a foreign visitor.

  36. Michalis says:

According to the site of Iviron Monastery (www.imiviron.gr) for reservation the email is: ivironfiloxenia@gmail.com

  37. Mike says:

Thanks for this invaluable resource! I just wanted to inform you that they have changed the email address at Grigoriou – filoxenia@imog.gr

  38. Francesco says:

Hi, thank you for the useful information. However, I have to inform you all that, as of January 30, 2023, the Karakallou monastry address (karakallou at sign yahoo.gr) is marked as “no longer in use”.
