1701 – how to book an Athos visit: update March 2015

In post 1142 I shared information from the internet about how to book an Athos pilgrimage. The new email adres – from 2014 – is: athosreservation@gmail.com (so do NOT use “piligrimsbureau@c-lab.gr” anymore).

If you call the Pilgrimsbureau an half a year in advance (they do not accept earlier reservations) on telephone number 00-30-2310-252578, you might get mr Christos Lolis or mr Alexander Gkikas on the phone.

The office in Ouranopolis is open for reservations on Monday to Friday from 9 to 16 h PM and on Saturday from 9 to 14 h PM.

We just booked our next trip starting at Sunday 20th of September 2015!

Guys, I have a question. When you apply to extend your diamonitirion beyond the initial four days, are there restrictions on the number of additional days you can request? What is your normal practice? Thanks.

This is really a difficult question: when we asked for a one day extention last year we got five extra days! And a good friend of my did not have any troubles to ask for a 14 extra days! I would advise to ask as many days as you want, maybe you will get more!

Thanks for the advice. It’s a bit tricky to book a flight back to the US without knowing how long you can extend your stay, but I guess I’ll just be optimistic.

Hello, maybe you can tell is it very bad to come to Agios Pavlos monastery without reservation for nigth stay? Cause i cant’ catch them on phone for tree week and their fax machine don’t work.

    • athosweblog says:

This a problem that occurs often: many monasteries do not answer phonecalls or fax messages. I personally never experienced that a totall refusal at the gate; sometimes they tell you that it is fully booked or that the guestrooms are being renovated, and than you’ll have to find another monastery/place to sleep. I never heard of any pilgrims who had to sleep outside (unless you’re to late and the gates were closed!

Thanks, It’ll be my first time in Athos, so I want to come as prepared as I can.

Especially Paulou has a large quantity of guestrooms. No problem to go without reservation.
