Vintage photo (1870?)of one of the first settlements of the Russians on Mount Athos, Paleo Monastiro or Old Roussikon, approximately 400 meters above Panteleimonos. The white building is obviosly newly built. On the left, clearly, a part of the old monastery wall. The new building is still there but that part of the wall is completly gone, for as I know. The red arrow points at a kind of gorge wich devides the location. Nowadays there is a wooden bridge over the gorge.
Here Wim Voogd standing at the spot of the red arrow in 2009. Behind him the courtyard of the old monastery. In front the bridge over the gorge or ravine.
The courtyard with the white building.
At he other end of the courtyard is a part of the old monastery wall left.
Patriarch Kírillos of Moscow visited this place and the restaurationworks on June 6, 2013, see:https://mospat.ru/en/2013/06/07/news87089/
