1309 – Athos in The Geographical Magazine February 1936

In post number 939 I mentioned that I tried to buy this magazine on Ebay in 2009. Recently I was more lucky and I bought it for only one English Pound (in 1936 it costed one shilling).

The article is written by Ralph H. Brewster, the author of the famous book “The 6000 beards of Athos”, published in 1935 (also see 505 and 506).

First I will publish the complete text of the article. Even in 2012 the information from 1936  is more or less usefull and visits to Athos still seem to be timeless, although a lot of the old paths disappeared in the meanwhile and cars were introduced.
