1108 – Athos exhibition in Austria

There are only two days left to visit, because this exhition opened its doors on June 16th and closes already on September 9th: “Österreichische Künstler und der Berg Athos” (Austrian artists and Mount Athos).

In a castle, not far from Vienna, Herwig Zens, Heinz Nussbaumer, Sepp Brugger, Dimitri Manikas, Walter Mathis, Gerald Nitsche, Helmut Bichler show their works, and also from deceased artists like Paul Flora, Heinz Bohrer and Reinhold Zwerger.

Reinhold Zwerger is famous because of the excellent map he made of the Holy Mountain, which I used intensively during my hikes in the past years. In the near future I will pay some extra attention to the book he wrote “Wege am Athos”, which I ordered today (a signed copy!), read more or order here.

    Het boek is ook in het nederlands vertaald onder de titel ‘Byzantium, het verrassende leven van een middeleeuws rijk’, uitgeverij Bulaaq, Amsterdam. ISBN 978 90 5460 157 9.
    Wellicht is de nederlandse druk uit 2009 in Nederland makkelijker te verkrijgen dan de engelstalige druk uit 2007.
    Het boek, dat Byzantium thematisch behandelt, is ook wat mij betreft een aanrader !

    Hans, ik lees het in het Nederlands. Het is inderdaad niet chronologisch en mede daardoor zeer de moeite waard.
