Spyros Papaloukas has a prominent place among great Greek painters of the past century. Alongside with his paintings, he decorated several churches, including the famous Cathedral of Amfissa (1927-1932).
He made works on Mount Athos in the period: 1923-1935. Here he paints a relative Olga Papalouka (probably his wife) as if she stood on Mount Athos soil. Is this a silent protest or a way to get her closer to the Holy Mountain?

Here a similar and earlier (1924) painting of Karyes.
