Allthough it is “scrictly” forbidden, I could’nt resist the temptation to take some moving pictures with my ordinary photocamera (by the way, what is the difference nowadays between a video and photocamera and do the athorities on Athos know how modern technology is overruling their strict (and dated) rules, that are almost impossible to enforce?).
So here they are, especially for all those women in the world who are not able to visit the Holy Mountain and who would love to have a sneak preview!

Hi HV,
The only lakes I know of on Athos are the one pictured here (in close proximity to Vatopediou Monastery) and another at Paleomonastiron or Thessalonikeos Skete near Agiou Panteleimonos (Rossikon), the later is very beautiful, surrounded by forest and has countless gold fish in it. Both are man made.

Don’t feel guilty over this.. I put a 4-giga memory card in my 70 euro digital camera just so I could take long videos. I made a 45 minute “documentary” of my last visit. Of course I respected the rules and didn’t film monks or the interior of the churches, but pretty much everything else is in there! I did it to show to my mother the beauty of Athos and also to “advertise” the place to my friends who used to be sceptical about coming along to one of my trips.
Mooi geworden!
Hi Dimitri,
could you post it on the blog, or is it too ‘big’ ?
Na ‘sai kala !
