A very nice photo account by an American pilgrim who alone made a roundtrip through the peninsula in 1979.
Almost no roads then. Paths were difficult to find and even dangerous along the shore from Paulou to Dionysiou. According to the monks of Lavra the route to Sk. Anna was dangerous because of fugitives of the Civil war! Please have a look here.
