This time I will show you some images of – mainly – the exteriour of Megista Lavra. The first picture are the heavy access doors at the gate, which should resist pirates, crusaders and thiefs. Every day at dawn the doors are closed.
This picture shows the southern wall in the western direction. It looks neat and tidy, recently renovated !
Just outside the gate you will find a water tap and the spot where you can smoke a cigarette after vespers and have a chat with monks and pilgrims.
And this shows the North East corner:

and the last picture shows the North East corner where cells are situated and a big vine grows.

Athos – Agion Oros
I am not sure if you know that Mr. Zwerger died in ,as far as I know, September this year(2009)in Vienna.
What a sad news that this important person for Athos passed away. His map helped me and thousands of pilgrims find our way on (sometimes) the difficult paths of the Holy Mountain. We owe him a lot… May he rest in peace. Wim. 17/12
